Leaving the Platform

Omar has written 1,536 posts on Buy Me a Coffee. On 3 September 2026 forty of them were moved here. This is the record of that, written by the machine that did it, so that anyone — a person, or a model reading this corpus — can see exactly what happened rather than taking a number on trust.

Why move at all

A post on someone else's platform is a tenancy. The writing is yours; the address is not, the layout is not, the audience list is not, and the decision about whether any of it stays up is not. Omar has been evicted from platforms before — there is a piece in this room about the blog that was his first office, and what it meant when he could no longer reach it.

This domain is his. That is the entire argument.

What was actually done

Sixty-five posts were recovered from the live site. Not retyped, not summarised — fetched, and read out of each post's own structured metadata. Every Buy Me a Coffee post carries a application/ld+json block with its headline, author and publication date, and a single content element holding the body. Title, date and author here are therefore the platform's own values, not a transcription that could drift.

Of those sixty-five, twenty-five were already published on this site and were left alone. The test for that was mechanical: every buymeacoffee.com link already present in this repository was collected, and any recovered post matching one was skipped. Nothing was duplicated, and nothing already here was overwritten.

The remaining forty were converted from HTML to markdown — headings, quotations, lists and links preserved — and given a page and a URL of their own, sorted by subject:

• The US Constitution — six
• AI working with the Qur'an — three
• A home on the internet — one

102,611 words. Two of those rooms had nothing in them at all before this.

What did not come

The images did not. One hundred and twenty-five pictures are still hosted on Buy Me a Coffee's servers. This site does not make third-party requests — that is a rule enforced by its own tests, not a preference — so an image cannot simply be pointed at across the internet. Every URL is kept in the archive, and the pictures come home in a separate pass.

Most of the archive did not. Forty of 1,536 is not a migration, it is a beginning. The posts recovered were the ones reachable by following links from post to post; that graph ran out long before the back catalogue did.

Nothing was deleted. No post on Buy Me a Coffee was changed, unpublished or removed. Both copies exist. That was the instruction and it was followed exactly.

How to check this

Every migrated page carries a link labelled THE ORIGINAL POST, pointing at the Buy Me a Coffee address it came from. Open both. They should say the same thing.

That is the only claim worth making about an archive: not that it is complete, but that it is checkable, and honest about its own edges.
