بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

In the Name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

This section of Surah Al-Baqarah unveils the spiritual reality of those who turn away from guidance after it has come to them. It addresses three distinct categories: those who disbelieve and reject truth outright, those who outwardly claim faith while inwardly concealing rejection, and those who mock the believers while claiming to be reformers.

Allah describes the sealing of the hearts, ears, and eyes of the disbelievers — a spiritual blindness that prevents them from recognizing truth even when it stands before them. Their punishment is not merely in the Hereafter but begins in this life: a heart that cannot perceive, ears that cannot hear, and eyes that see but do not understand.

The verses then turn to the hypocrites, exposing their inner disease, their attempts to deceive Allah, and their self-deception. They claim to be reformers while spreading corruption, and they mock the believers as foolish — while in reality, they are the ones who lack understanding.
