This is a letter from my office—the Superuser Office—at a moment when I was very angry with President Trump. I was giving him what I believed he needed to hear. There was a lot happening at the time, and this letter preserves one part of my response. You are seeing my office when I am angry. You are not seeing the full record of when the president did something right, when I praised him, encouraged him, or tried to bring the best out of him. If all you read is criticism, you can mistake a moment of anger for a person’s entire character. I am not always bitter. There must also be room to recognize the good in a human being.

Sometimes I praised the president because I wanted him to move toward something—to listen, to reconsider, to deliver a result. That is part of politics. But my Twitter account was suspended, and the writings you see here do not contain every exchange or everything that led to this letter. Some of it happened long enough ago that I cannot remember every detail myself. One day, God willing, I intend to bring my Twitter record and my writings together so you can follow the journey more fully: the praise, the anger, the encouragement, the disappointment, and the work behind it all. Then you will have a better understanding of my office—and of the person speaking from it.
