Why Muslims Have Failed the Religion: Understanding the Root Cause of Confusion part 2

Muslims around the world have failed the religion of Islam—not because the truth is absent, but because the systems and environments needed to nurture and protect this truth have been neglected. This failure has created confusion, division, and manipulation on a massive scale. To address this, we must first acknowledge that Islam is a journey, and guidance belongs to Allah alone. Not all Muslims will have the same guidance, and even the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) tailored his guidance to the unique circumstances of his companions.

Islam Is a Journey of Guidance

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) understood that different people require different paths to guidance. For example, Imam Ali (RA) had a unique role among the companions, carrying immense burdens and dealing with the most dangerous of hypocrites. The Prophet (PBUH) often emphasized that if Allah loves you, He will place the burdens of life upon you. Today, we face similar challenges with hypocrites and contaminated environments that prevent true guidance from flourishing. These individuals must be identified and quarantined, as their influence disrupts the purity of Islam.

To address this, we must create an environment that shocks the system. But the question of the century remains: What will that shock be? While no one may agree on the exact steps, I am committed to offering a draft solution that future generations can refine and implement.

A System for Future Generations

I am working on creating both online and offline systems to preserve and transmit Islamic knowledge. This begins with identifying individuals who can represent the "outer knowledge" and serve as a standard for all Muslims to agree upon.

The Outer Knowledge and Abdallah bin Bayyah

I have chosen Abdallah bin Bayyah as the standard-bearer of outer knowledge. He is uniquely qualified, with a prestigious scholarly tradition, a deep understanding of all four schools of thought, and service as a Supreme Court judge. While he may also possess inner knowledge, my selection is based solely on his ability to represent the intellectual and traditional framework of Islam.

Outer knowledge must precede inner knowledge. The intellect must be cultivated and disciplined before spiritual realities can be unlocked. Abdallah bin Bayyah’s extensive resume and service make him an ideal candidate for this role, ensuring that the standard of outer knowledge is preserved for future generations.

The Role of Inner Knowledge

The inner knowledge of Islam, the light of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and the guidance of the purified hearts are undoubtedly the highest truths. These are earned through sitting in circles of light, connecting with blessed teachers, and undergoing spiritual purification (tazkiyah). However, those who possess inner knowledge alone are not sufficient to guide the masses because they lack the structured mechanisms needed for intellectual cultivation.

The Problem of Contamination

The greatest threat to Islam today is the contamination of its teachings by individuals and groups with agendas. Among these, the Salafis have caused unprecedented damage. They have weaponized terms like shirk and attacked core Islamic traditions, creating fear and division within the Muslim community. Their focus on obedience to rulers, at the expense of Islamic principles, has further eroded the integrity of the religion.

The Quran itself emphasizes that knowledge begins with the heart. The revelation to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was an activation of what was already in his heart:

> Read! In the name of your Lord who created.

[Surah Al-ʿAlaq: 1]

{ ٱقۡرَأۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ }

[Surah Al-ʿAlaq: 1]

Read! In the name of your Lord who created:

{ خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ }

[Surah Al-ʿAlaq: 2]

He created manfrom a clinging form.

{ ٱقۡرَأۡ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلۡأَكۡرَمُ }

[Surah Al-ʿAlaq: 3]

Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One

{ ٱلَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِٱلۡقَلَمِ }

[Surah Al-ʿAlaq: 4]

who taught by [means of] the pen,

{ عَلَّمَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَ

مۡ }

[Surah Al-ʿAlaq: 5]

This connection between the heart and divine guidance has been forgotten by those who treat Islam as merely ink on paper, neglecting the illuminated hearts that carry the true light of Islam.

Filtering the Problem

The solution lies in filtering people and their hearts. This begins with:

1. Identifying the Sick: Those who spread hate, manipulation, and misinformation must be isolated.

2. Protecting the Innocent: New Muslims and vulnerable individuals must be shielded from toxic environments.

3. Restoring Guidance: Guidance must be structured, starting with foundational knowledge and progressing to deeper spiritual insights.

Technology, particularly AI, can play a critical role in this process by analyzing environments, filtering manipulative influences, and connecting seekers to genuine sources of guidance.

The Role of Governments and Scholars

The contamination of Islam has been exacerbated by governments that align with scholars willing to compromise the religion for power and wealth. Historically, Islamic scholarship acted as a counterbalance to political power, holding rulers accountable and preserving the integrity of the faith. Today, this separation has eroded, allowing corruption to flourish.

When scholars and governments are in bed together, the religion is destroyed. The revival of Islam requires restoring this separation and empowering scholars to stand as independent voices of truth.

The Offline Strategy

My offline strategy focuses on direct engagement with contaminated environments. By exposing hypocrisy, confronting manipulation, and matching evil with accountability, I have already seen significant transformations. Those who engage in falsehoods are often scared into compliance when faced with exposure. While this approach may seem harsh, it is necessary to create the shock needed to reset the system.

A Vision for Renewal

This effort is not about reinventing guidance—it’s about preserving the purity of Islam and protecting its seekers. By filtering out contamination, shielding the vulnerable, and restoring the role of illuminated hearts, we can create an environment where guidance can thrive. AI will be instrumental in this process, but the ultimate success lies in Allah’s hands.

> “The religion is about the heart of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He was the walking Quran, and his heart illuminated those who were willing to undergo purification.”

Islam is a religion of light, and its revival depends on creating spaces where this light can shine without obstruction.
