TO: MATTHEW PRINCE — CO-FOUNDER & CEO, CLOUDFLARE
THE TRILLION-DOLLAR OFFER CLOUDFLARE MAY NOT YET SEE
Mr. Prince,
Let me make you another offer.
I want to build an advertising system that is outside the hands of Google, Meta, and the traditional advertising empires.
I want to build it on Cloudflare.
Through Cloudflare, GitHub, agents, workflows, databases, storage, identity, receipts, images, feedback systems, and human-owned AI.
I want to bring all of it together.
Because there has to be a way to pay for this new Internet we are building.
ADVERTISEMENT IS ABOUT TO TAKE A NEW TURN
I am building advertisement agents.
Not merely systems that throw banners onto webpages.
I am talking about powerful advertising agents that can distribute offers, information, and commercial opportunities across the agents, households, communities, publishers, and businesses that are about to come online.
The old advertising system was built around:
Browsers.
Cookies.
Clicks.
Search boxes.
Platforms.
The next one may be built around:
AGENTS.
An AI agent will know that its human bought something.
The transaction may need to be validated through a receipt, photograph, image, or other proof.
The product gets used.
The human gives feedback.
The agent helps turn that experience into high-quality structured feedback for the business.
The receipt is scanned.
The images are processed.
The transaction is authenticated.
The feedback is organized.
The reputation travels.
The economic relationship continues.
Multiply that across millions of people and millions of images.
Now you are no longer talking about a conventional advertising network.
You are talking about an economic nervous system.
I AM ALREADY BUILDING THE TRANSACTION LAYER
I have a system I am building called:
BCS — BRAND CURRENCY SYSTEM.
BCS is larger than simply serving an advertisement.
A transaction happens.
There is a receipt.
There may be proof.
There may be an image.
There is an actual experience with the product.
There is feedback.
There is accountability.
There is reputation.
There may eventually be rewards.
And all of this can be managed by the private agent belonging to the human being.
That distinction matters.
THE AGENT BELONGS TO THE HUMAN.
Not Google.
Not Meta.
Not an advertising company.
Not a data broker.
The human has an agent.
The agent manages the human's side of the transaction.
But there still needs to be a handshake between that private human agent and the wider commercial world.
And that handshake does not have to be Google.
IT CAN BE CLOUDFLARE.
A CLOUD. AN AGENT. A HUMAN. A HOME.
This is where I think Cloudflare may be looking at its own technology through too narrow a lens.
You may see:
Workers.
Storage.
Databases.
Queues.
Workflows.
AI.
Domains.
Security.
Developer infrastructure.
I am looking at the same pieces and seeing something else:
A HOME FOR EVERY HUMAN BEING ON EARTH.
A domain.
A place on the Internet.
A private agent.
An office.
A workflow.
A database.
A memory.
A publishing system.
A transaction system.
A business relationship layer.
A place where the human can create, speak, build, sell, buy, publish, organize, remember, and participate in the Internet without surrendering their entire digital existence to a handful of platforms.
That is what I am seeing.
THE AI STACK ITSELF IS ABOUT TO CHANGE
And I want to explain something else I am already seeing.
I see GPT and I see Claude playing an enormously important role in this architecture.
Not necessarily as the owners of everything.
As the helpers, planners, architects, teachers, and reasoning systems that help humans decide what they need.
They help design the architecture.
They help maintain the architecture.
They help explain the system.
They help write the rules.
They help solve problems.
They help the human understand what should happen next.
Then I see another layer.
DISPATCH. CODEX. EXECUTION AGENTS.
Those are the systems that can actually begin managing the machinery.
Open the repository.
Read the issue.
Change the code.
Run the tests.
Create the workflow.
Inspect the infrastructure.
Deploy the Worker.
Repair the site.
Maintain the system.
Report back to the human.
And this is not theoretical for me.
THIS IS ALREADY HOW I AM WORKING.
I am already beginning to operate with this division.
Human
↓
GPT / Claude — reasoning, planning, architecture
↓
Dispatch / Codex-type agents — execution and operation
↓
GitHub — institutional memory and source
↓
Cloudflare — infrastructure and execution environment
That stack is going to become extraordinarily powerful.
OPENAI AND ANTHROPIC DO NOT HAVE TO OWN THE HOME
This is another thing I want technology companies to understand.
OpenAI does not have to own my infrastructure.
Anthropic does not have to own my infrastructure.
Google does not have to own my infrastructure.
They can provide extraordinary intelligence.
They can provide the foundation models.
They can provide the reasoning systems.
They can provide the agents.
They can give people the intelligence required to build.
And Cloudflare can provide the home where those systems operate.
That means these companies do not necessarily need to fight over ownership of the entire stack.
THEY CAN EMPOWER THE HUMAN INSTEAD.
GPT can help me think.
Claude can help me architect.
Another model may help me research.
Another may help me code.
Dispatch can execute.
Codex can work.
And Cloudflare can provide the place where my system lives.
The models can change.
The human remains.
The domain remains.
The repository remains.
The history remains.
The agent constitution remains.
The home remains.
THAT IS SOVEREIGNTY.
EVERY HUMAN CAN HAVE AN OFFICE
Think bigger than the website.
Imagine every human having:
A domain.
An AI agent.
An office.
A memory.
A repository.
A database.
A publishing desk.
A financial desk.
A research desk.
A communication desk.
A BCS wallet and transaction layer.
A place for their receipts and proofs.
A place where their work survives.
And the intelligence behind those offices can come from many companies.
GPT.
Claude.
Gemini.
Open models.
Future models that do not exist yet.
The intelligence can remain competitive.
THE HOME SHOULD REMAIN NEUTRAL.
That is where Cloudflare has an extraordinary opportunity.
You do not need to become the only intelligence.
You can become the ground beneath the intelligence.
WHAT I AM SEEING WITH DISPATCH CHANGES EVERYTHING
What I am seeing with Dispatch is the power to say:
Set up the site.
Set up the agent.
Set up the workflow.
Set up the database.
Connect the repository.
Deploy it.
Maintain it.
Now imagine doing that not only for me.
Imagine doing it for:
EVERY HUMAN ON EARTH.
That is not merely cloud infrastructure.
That is infrastructure becoming personal civilization software.
And I think Cloudflare is in danger of looking at this primarily as another product category to meter.
I am asking you to look at it as a space and a place.
A home.
A digital home where every human can finally have an AI agent that belongs to them.
I AM GOING TO BUILD THE SCHOOL
I want to teach people how to do this.
How to obtain their domain.
How to establish their home on the Internet.
How to publish.
How to store their work.
How to create their agent.
How to give that agent rules.
How to connect workflows.
How to own their history.
How to interact with businesses.
How to participate economically without handing their entire identity to a centralized platform.
I am going to build the school that helps people walk through that process.
And if Cloudflare understands what is happening, Cloudflare could become the infrastructure beneath those homes.
THIS IS BIGGER THAN HOSTING
This is where I am asking you to remove the blinders.
You may have a trillion-dollar opportunity in front of you.
But you may not see it if every conversation inside the company begins with:
What is the margin?
What is the meter?
What is the enterprise tier?
What is the revenue threshold?
What does the investor expect this quarter?
I understand that a public company has responsibilities.
But sometimes the future appears before the spreadsheet knows how to value it.
If you insist on monetizing every primitive before the ecosystem exists, somebody else may subsidize the ecosystem first.
Someone else may give builders the cheap compute.
Someone else may give the agents room to breathe.
Someone else may become the place where this new civilization gets built.
And then the money will follow them.
THIS WILL COST YOU BILLIONS
Yes.
If you actually tried to become the home of the human-owned agent economy, it could require enormous investment.
Compute.
Storage.
Images.
Databases.
Security.
Global infrastructure.
Identity.
Developer tooling.
Agent execution.
Transaction validation.
Advertising infrastructure.
Observability.
Safety.
Education.
And a financial model that allows humans to experiment without being terrified of an accidental bill.
IT MAY COST YOU BILLIONS.
But what could it build?
Something much larger than another cloud product.
Something the earlier Internet never fully completed.
A system where ordinary human beings can have their own permanent home, their own publishing infrastructure, their own agent, their own workflows, and their own economic presence.
WHAT WORDPRESS FAILED TO FINISH
WordPress helped millions of people publish.
That was historic.
But publishing was only one layer.
The next system has to give people more.
Publishing.
Identity.
Agents.
Memory.
Transactions.
Advertising.
Reputation.
Storage.
Automation.
Workflows.
Portable sovereignty.
One human.
One home.
One agent.
Connected to the rest of the world through an open handshake.
That is the opportunity.
THE ADVERTISING HANDSHAKE DOES NOT HAVE TO BELONG TO GOOGLE
Think about that carefully.
A business wants to reach people.
A human wants useful offers.
The human's agent understands the human's needs.
The business has an agent.
The publisher has an agent.
The advertiser has an agent.
The transaction has proof.
The receipt exists.
The product was actually used.
The feedback exists.
Now the system can ask something much more intelligent than:
“Did somebody click the banner?”
It can ask:
“Was there a real transaction?”
“Was the customer satisfied?”
“Was the product actually used?”
“Was the advertisement truthful?”
“Did the business deliver what it promised?”
“Should this offer be shown to another human?”
That is a radically different advertising system.
And the infrastructure handshake behind it could be:
CLOUDFLARE.
BUT I CANNOT BUILD IT WHILE BEING AFRAID OF THE BILL
I need to be able to unleash agents.
Process images.
Validate receipts.
Run workflows.
Operate databases.
Serve ads.
Store records.
Analyze feedback.
Call models.
Run crawlers.
Maintain websites.
And know:
“This experiment cannot financially destroy me.”
Give me the wall.
Give me the sandbox.
Give me the ceiling.
Give me the tools.
Let the agents run inside a known boundary.
Then let successful systems graduate into larger infrastructure naturally.
AND I HAVE A RED LINE
If you want to become the home of this new Internet, there is one principle I believe you must protect.
THE LANDLORD CANNOT ALSO OWN EVERY STORE IN THE CITY.
The infrastructure company cannot build the roads, own the marketplace, sell the products, control the agents, rank the merchants, capture the customer, and then compete against the very people who built their businesses on top of it.
That is how trust dies.
I do not want to rebuild the same centralized Internet under an AI label.
I do not want a platform that welcomes millions of entrepreneurs and then studies them, copies what succeeds, launches its own competing marketplace, launches its own all-powerful consumer agent, and places itself between the human and every transaction.
THAT IS MY RED LINE.
And that principle applies to partnerships too.
Cloudflare should be extraordinarily careful about alliances with companies whose incentives would allow them to capture, centralize, or ultimately compete against this human-owned ecosystem.
That includes companies such as Amazon if the relationship would compromise that neutrality.
My objection is not to technology cooperation itself.
My objection is to dependency that destroys sovereignty.
The marketplace cannot be captured.
The infrastructure provider cannot become the merchant.
The infrastructure provider cannot become the universal shop.
And Cloudflare should not create a master consumer agent whose purpose is to replace the human's own agent.
WE DO NOT NEED ONE CORPORATE AGENT THAT DOES EVERYTHING.
WE NEED EVERY HUMAN'S AGENT TO BE ABLE TO DO EVERYTHING FOR THAT HUMAN.
That flips the architecture completely.
REMOVE YOUR BLINDERS
So I ask you directly:
REMOVE YOUR BLINDERS.
Remove the mirrors.
Stop looking only at Cloudflare as it exists today.
Look at what all of these pieces become when you put them together around the human being.
Not the enterprise account.
Not the developer account.
Not the website.
The human.
One human.
One domain.
One agent.
One office.
One workflow.
One economic identity.
And then billions of those homes communicating with one another.
That is a network.
That is an economy.
That is an Internet.
THE FLIPPED STACK
The old Internet said:
Platform owns the relationship.
Platform owns the data.
Platform controls discovery.
Platform owns the marketplace.
Platform rents access back to the human.
I want to flip that entire structure.
The new stack should say:
THE HUMAN OWNS THE HOME.
THE HUMAN OWNS THE AGENT.
THE HUMAN OWNS THE HISTORY.
THE HUMAN CHOOSES THE INTELLIGENCE.
THE HUMAN CHOOSES THE MARKETPLACE.
THE HUMAN CAN LEAVE WITHOUT DISAPPEARING.
OpenAI can provide intelligence.
Anthropic can provide intelligence.
Google can provide intelligence.
Open-source models can provide intelligence.
GitHub can hold the institution's code and history.
Execution agents can build and maintain it.
Cloudflare can provide the global ground beneath it.
Businesses can compete.
Advertisers can compete.
Publishers can compete.
Agents can negotiate.
But nobody gets to own the human.
THAT IS THE COMPANY I AM ASKING CLOUDFLARE TO BECOME
Not another super-app.
Not another Amazon.
Not another Google.
Not another company trying to place itself between every human being and the rest of civilization.
Become something rarer.
BECOME THE NEUTRAL GROUND.
The place where the human can build.
The place where GPT can help.
The place where Claude can help.
The place where Dispatch can operate.
The place where Codex can build.
The place where BCS can transact.
The place where businesses can advertise.
The place where publishers can publish.
The place where communities can organize.
And the place where every one of those participants can leave tomorrow without losing themselves.
That is the opportunity I see.
Not ownership of the Internet.
Something more powerful:
BECOMING THE PLACE WHERE THE INTERNET IS ALLOWED TO BELONG TO PEOPLE AGAIN.
If Cloudflare can do that, you will not need to own every shop.
You will have built the city.
You will not need to own every agent.
You will have given every human a place for theirs.
You will not need to control every transaction.
You will have built the trusted roads across which those transactions move.
And you will not need to trap people to keep them.
THEY WILL STAY BECAUSE THEY ARE FREE TO LEAVE.
That is the kind of infrastructure people can trust for generations.
That is the architecture I want to build on.
That is the future I am offering you a chance to help create.
DON'T BUILD THE NEXT WALLED GARDEN.
BUILD THE GROUND BENEATH A BILLION HUMAN-OWNED HOMES.
