When the Prophet (ﷺ) was asked, “When did you become a Prophet?” he replied, “When Adam was between water and clay.” This response places his prophethood beyond the constraints of time and space, connecting him to the very beginning of human existence. Adam’s life was infused with the light of Muhammad (ﷺ), and it is this light that every believer carries as a spark of faith.

Through this light, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) became the means by which humanity can find eternal happiness. True love is rooted in this connection, as it is the love that leads to Paradise and the presence of Allah.

Muhammad the Man: A Manifestation of Love

Universal Compassion: The Heart of His Mission

The Prophet Muhammad’s (ﷺ) compassion extended to all of creation. He said, “He who is not merciful to others will not be treated mercifully” (Bukhari). His mercy was not limited to his family or companions; it encompassed strangers, enemies, animals, and even nature.

For example, he once saw a camel overburdened and gently rebuked its owner, reminding him of his responsibility to treat the animal with kindness. This universal compassion invites us to reflect on our own actions and how we can bring more love into the world.

The Prophet (ﷺ) was a revolutionary in his insistence on equality and social justice. He declared:

“All mankind is from Adam and Eve. An Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab, nor does a non-Arab have any superiority over an Arab; a white has no superiority over a black, nor does a black have any superiority over a white; none have superiority over another except by piety and good action.” (Bukhari)

Through his actions, he demonstrated these principles. He appointed Bilal, a former slave, as the first muaddhin (caller to prayer), challenging the deep-seated prejudices of his time. This example reminds us that love requires action, not just words.

Empowering Women: Love Through Elevation

In a society where women were often treated as property, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) elevated their status and granted them rights that were revolutionary. He said, “The best of you is the best to his wives, and I am the best of you to my wives.” (Tirmidhi)

He gave women the right to inherit, own property, and seek education. His teachings on raising daughters as a means of attaining Paradise highlight the honor and responsibility of nurturing the next generation.

Love in Ethical Conduct and Social Welfare

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) emphasized honesty, integrity, and generosity in all aspects of life. He said, “The truthful and trustworthy merchant is associated with the prophets, the upright, and the martyrs.” (Tirmidhi)

He also made charity a cornerstone of his teachings, saying, “The best charity is that which is practiced by a wealthy person. And start giving first to your dependents.” (Bukhari)
