Muslims Failed Islam, but the Solution is Within Reach

The failure starts with acknowledging that Islam, as a religion, has not failed—it is we, the people, who have failed to uphold its principles, protect its purity, and create environments where its light can thrive. This is my perspective, and I hope it will be respected, as my aim is to initiate a collaborative effort with Muslim scholars and introduce a project in artificial intelligence that will help guide us into the new century.

I also extend an apology to those Muslims who believe everything is perfect and that there is no need for change. Perhaps, from their perspective, I may appear misguided or overcritical. If so, I invite you to educate me, as my intention is not to impose but to collaborate for the betterment of our shared faith.

Acknowledging Our Struggles

The problem is not the religion itself—it is the people. We see this in the degradation of Islamic scholarship, where scholars have become silent in the face of injustice, allowing governments to erode the teeth that once protected the integrity of our religion. Historically, scholars endured immense struggles, including imprisonment, public humiliation, and even death, to ensure the separation of Islamic knowledge from political agendas.

The Legacy of the Four Imams

The struggles of Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Malik, Imam Shafi’ee, and Imam Ahmad ibn Hambal are testament to the sacrifices made to preserve Islamic knowledge:

1. Imam Abu Hanifa: Imprisoned and tortured for refusing to comply with unjust rulers, yet he laid the foundations of the Hanafi school of thought, emphasizing reason and adaptability.

2. Imam Malik: Whipped publicly for upholding the truth and refusing to align his teachings with political interests, he preserved the traditions of Medina in the Maliki school.

3. Imam Shafi’ee: Faced imprisonment and exile but unified legal methodologies and gave clarity to Islamic jurisprudence through the Shafi’ee school.

4. Imam Ahmad ibn Hambal: Endured brutal torture for defending the uncreated nature of the Quran, cementing his legacy in the Hanbali school.

These imams and their struggles created a foundation for Islam that should inspire us to reintroduce the "teeth" of scholarship—an uncompromising standard for knowledge, integrity, and accountability.

To bring back the power and integrity of Islamic scholarship, I propose the following:

1. AI-Driven Licensing: Develop AI systems to authenticate scholars, ensuring they meet rigorous intellectual and spiritual standards.

2. Accountability Measures: Implement systems that prevent unqualified individuals from speaking on Islam, protecting the religion from dilution and misrepresentation.

3. New Systems of Guidance: Encourage Muslims to view guidance as a journey requiring effort, struggle, and personal accountability, rather than relying solely on external sources.

Muslims today must realize that Islam is not a weekend activity or a set of rituals—it is a journey of self-purification, critical thinking, and deep faith. Our failure lies in neglecting the tools Allah has given us: the Quran, the Sunnah, and the example of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). We must:

Seek knowledge actively, understanding that true guidance requires struggle.

Protect our hearts from contamination by avoiding environments of manipulation and misinformation.

Collaborate with scholars, communities, and even AI to create systems that safeguard the purity of Islam for future generations.

> "It is not upon you [O Muhammad] to guide them, but Allah guides whom He wills."

(Surah Al-Baqarah: 272)

O Allah, this project is a reflection of our longing to understand and transmit the light of Your religion. We know that Islam, in its purity, is perfect, but we, the people, have faltered in upholding its sanctity. We ask You to guide us as You guided those before us:

> "And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good."

(Surah Al-Ankabut: 69)

O Allah, make this effort a means of healing for the hearts, clarity for the confused, and unity for the divided. Let it open pathways for those seeking knowledge, free from agendas or distortions. Protect it from the whispers of Shaytan and the mischief of those who seek to mislead.

We ask You, O Lord, to bless the journey of those who read, contribute, and engage with this work.

> "Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds – their Lord will guide them because of their faith. Beneath them rivers will flow in the Gardens of Pleasure."

(Surah Yunus: 9)

O Allah, guide us to sincerity in action and purity in intention. Make this work an ongoing charity, a source of reward that endures beyond our lifetimes. As You remind us in the Quran:

Bless this work, multiply its benefits, and forgive its shortcomings. Elevate those who strive for Your sake and make their footsteps firm upon the truth.

> "Our Lord, pour upon us patience and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people."

(Surah Al-Baqarah: 250)

O Allah, the hearts of the guided are in Your hands. Turn them toward You and fill them with Your light. Let this project remind us all that the journey to You is one of struggle, sincerity, and unwavering hope.
