What is Sahih Muslim?

Sahih Muslim is more than a collection of sayings—it is a beacon of knowledge, a legacy of precision, and a testament to the unparalleled dedication of Hadith scholars. This monumental work by Imam Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj (رحمه الله) stands as one of the most authentic Hadith compilations, second only to Sahih al-Bukhari.

Who Was Imam Muslim?

Imam Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj (رحمه الله) was a guardian of Hadith, a pioneer of authentication, and a meticulous scholar who dedicated his life to ensuring that only the most authentic narrations were recorded. Born in 202 AH (817 CE) in Nishapur, he traveled across the Islamic world, seeking knowledge from the greatest Hadith masters, including:

✅ Imam Bukhari – His teacher and mentor, who shaped his methodology.

✅ Ahmad ibn Hanbal – The legendary jurist and Hadith master.

✅ Ishaq ibn Rahwayh – A Hadith scholar who emphasized precision.

Imam Muslim’s collection consists of over 7,500 Hadith, including repetitions, carefully categorized into 57 books that cover every aspect of faith, law, worship, character, and ethics. His methodology was so rigorous that he often cross-verified narrators and chains of transmission to eliminate even the slightest possibility of error.

He passed away in 261 AH (875 CE), but his legacy remains untouched, guiding scholars, students, and seekers of knowledge to this day.

Reclaiming the Honor of Hadith: A New System for a New Era

For too long, Hadith has been treated as an open-source database, accessible to anyone with a book or an internet connection. But just as a medical textbook does not make someone a doctor, reading Hadith does not make one a scholar.

1️⃣ A Scholar Must Have a Traceable Biography – Just as a doctor must have credentials, a Hadith teacher must have a clear, documented lineage of knowledge, linking him back to the Prophet ﷺ.

2️⃣ A Scholar Must Have an Authentic Chain (Isnad) – To teach Hadith, one must have received it directly from teachers who trace their knowledge back to the Prophet ﷺ.

3️⃣ Hadith Study Will Follow the Medical Model – Just as medical students go through rigorous training before practicing medicine, students of Hadith will:

Learn under recognized scholars.

Undergo structured coursework.

Complete supervised study before engaging in independent discussion.

4️⃣ No More DIY Hadith Interpretation – Laypeople will no longer be encouraged to interpret Hadith on their own. Instead, they will be guided by qualified teachers, just as legal cases are handled by trained lawyers, not amateurs.
