A Qasida of Falling in Love with the Divine

Preface – For Those Who Are Seeking Love

This is not poetry for the eye alone,
but for the heart to fall in love.
It is a rhythm meant to be read aloud,
to be sung gently,
to be followed by moments of silence.

When you come to each refrain, repeat it until it becomes your own breath.
When you arrive at a confession, lower your voice,
for these are the moments the soul bends.
When you hear the supplication, raise your hands in prayer,
as if the words are your own.

This is not about performance.
This is about falling in love with the One who already loves you.

A Blessing for the Reader
If you are looking for love, may love find you.
If you are longing for love, may love reach you.
If you are waiting for love, may love bless you.

Not the fragile love of humans,
but the endless, patient, overflowing love
that never fades, never complains, never ends.

This is falling in love with the Divine.

Chapter One – The Signs of Love in Creation

How to read: Chant the chorus softly, repeat it 2–3 times. Pause after each verse.

لَا يُحِبُّنِي أَحَدٌ مِثْلَكَ،
مَا تَفْعَلُهُ لِي لَا يَسْتَطِيعُهُ أَحَدٌ.
كُلَّ لَيْلٍ وَنَهَارٍ،
حُبُّكَ يَفْعَلُ مَا لَا يَفْعَلُهُ أَحَدٌ.

No one loves me like You do,
What You do for me, no one can do.
Every night and every day,
Your love is doing what no one can do.

مِنْ أَيْنَ أَبْدَأُ بِهَذَا الْحُبِّ؟
الَّذِي تُدِيمُهُ عَلَى خَلْقِكَ؟
لَا أَحَدٌ يُحِبُّنَا مِثْلَكَ —
اُنْظُرْ فَقَطْ إِلَى الشَّمْسِ.

Where do I start with all this love,
That You continue to pour on creation?
No one loves us like You do—
Just look at the sun.

الشَّمْسُ جُزْءٌ مِنْ حُبِّكَ،
لَا تَدَعُنَا نَمُوتُ مِنَ الْبَرْدِ.
إِنَّهَا تُضِيءُ مَحَبَّةً،
فَلَا أَحَدٌ يُحِبُّ مِثْلَكَ.

The sun is part of Your love,
It does not let us freeze to death.
It shines only out of love,
So no one loves like You do.

اُنْظُرْ مَا تَفْعَلُهُ مَحَبَّتُكَ،
فَالنَّفَسُ بِنَفْسِهِ رَحْمَةٌ مِنْكَ.
كُلُّ شَهِيقٍ هُوَ هِبَةٌ مُجَدَّدَةٌ،
لَا يُحِبُّ مِثْلَكَ أَحَدٌ.

Look at what You do with Your love:
Breath itself is a mercy from You.
Every inhale is a gift renewed,
No one loves like You do.

لَمْ يُطْلِقِ الْحُبَّ أَحَدٌ مِثْلَكَ،
وَيَنْتَظِرْ عَوْدَتَهُ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى.
صَبْرُكَ بَحْرٌ لَا نِهَايَةَ لَهُ،
وَلَا حُبَّ كَحُبِّكَ.

No one has set love free like You,
And waited for it to return again.
Your patience is an ocean without end,
There is no love like You.

Chapter Two – The Limits of Human Love

كُلُّ مَا أَفْعَلُهُ لَيْسَ حُبًّا لَكَ،
فَإِنِّي أُحِبُّ بِعَيْنِي وَبِحِسِّي.
أَقَعُ فِي الْمَظَاهِرِ وَالْجَمَالِ الْمَرْئِيِّ،
وَأَنْتَ بِلَا صُورَةٍ، تَشْبَهُ لَا أَحَدًا.

All I do is not love You,
For I love with my eyes, with my senses.
I fall for appearances, for beauty I can see,
But You have no image, You resemble no one.

أُحِبُّكَ فِي شُرُوقِ الشَّمْسِ،
أُحِبُّكَ فِي النَّفَسِ الَّذِي يُحْيِينِي.
أُحِبُّكَ فِي الْمَطَرِ الَّذِي يَنْزِلُ خَفِيًّا،
أُحِبُّكَ فِي الْقَلْبِ الَّذِي وَضَعْتَهُ دَاخِلِي.

I love You in the rising of the sun,
I love You in the breath that gives me life.
I love You in the rain that falls unseen,
I love You in the heart You placed inside me.

Chapter Three – The Hidden Treasure

لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ مَخْفِيًّا مِثْلَكَ،
لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ كَامِلًا مِثْلَكَ.
لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ كَنْزًا مِثْلَكَ،
فَكَيْفَ أُحِبُّكَ؟

No one is hidden like You,
No one is perfect like You.
No one is a treasure like You—
So how can I love You?

لَا أَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ أُحِبَّكَ إِلَّا إِذَا أَذِنْتَ لِي،
إِلَّا إِذَا قَرَّبْتَنِي وَقُلْتَ: «إِنِّي أُحِبُّكَ».
فَيَسْتَيْقِظُ قَلْبِي،
وَيَصِيرُ الْحُبُّ كُلُّهُ أَنْتَ.

I cannot love You unless You let me,
Unless You draw me near and say: “I love you.”
Then my heart awakens,
And love becomes only You.

Chapter Four – The Mirror of the Self

لَمْ يُعْطِنِي أَحَدٌ مِثْلَكَ،
وَلَمْ يُكَمِّلْنِي أَحَدٌ مِثْلَكَ.
عِنْدَمَا أَنْظُرُ إِلَى نَفْسِي،
لَا أَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ أَنْسَى ذِكْرَكَ.

No one has given me like You,
No one has perfected me like You.
When I look at myself,
I cannot stop remembering You.

Chapter Five – The Supplication of the Heart

دَعْنِي أَقَعْ فِي حُبِّكَ…

Let me fall for You,
Let me search for You at night when You call me…

Arabic:
كَيْفَ أَعْرِفُ مَعْنَى أَنْ أَنْظُرَ بِنُورِ اللهِ وَمَحَبَّتِهِ؟
إِنَّهُ مِنْكَ وَحْدَكَ.
كَيْفَ أَعْرِفُ مَعْنَى أَنْ أَلْمَسَ بِنُورِ اللهِ وَمَحَبَّتِهِ؟
إِنَّهُ بِسَبَبِكَ.

تَبْقَى فِي الْخِتَامِ،
لِأَنَّكَ لَمْ تَطْلُبْ شَيْئًا لِنَفْسِكَ.
إِلَّا مَا جَعَلَهُ اللهُ قَبْلَكَ،
مَوَدَّةً فِي الْقُرْبَى، وَبَرَكَةً وَهُدًى.

فَبِدُونِكَ لَا نَعْرِفُ كَيْفَ،
وَلَا نَعْرِفُ لِمَاذَا،
وَلَا نَعْرِفُ كَيْفَ سَيَجْرِي كُلُّ هَذَا.

فَأَقْبَلُ ذَلِكَ أَمَامَكَ،
وَأَرْجُو أَنْ يَكُونَ الْحُبُّ الَّذِي يَأْتِي مِنْكَ
مَمْلُوءًا بِنُورٍ وَبَرَكَةٍ،
حَتَّى يَتَحَقَّقَ حُبِّي وَيَتَجَسَّدَ.

فَتُبَارَكُ الْمُبَارَكُونَ،
وَتَزْدَادُ أَنْوَارُ أَهْلِ الْبَيْتِ وَهُدَاهُمْ.
وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى السَّيِّدِ،
الَّذِي لَمْ يُرِدْ أَنْ يُذْكَرَ،
لِأَنَّهُ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ شَيْئًا إِلَّا أَنْ أَحَبَّ اللهَ
كَمَا لَمْ يُحِبَّهُ أَحَدٌ غَيْرُهُ.

English:
How do I know what it means to look with the light and love of Allah?
It is only through you.
How do I know what it means to touch with the light and love of the Divine?
It is only because of you.

You remain in the last chapter,
because you never wanted anything for yourself,
except what Allah placed before you:
love for your family, blessing, and guidance.

Without you we do not know how,
we do not know why,
we do not know how all of this will unfold.

So I accept this before you,
and I hope the love that comes from you
is full of light and blessing,
so my love may be realized and made visible.

Blessed are those who are blessed,
and may the family of blessing ever increase in light and guidance.
Peace be upon the Master —
who did not wish to be mentioned,
for all he ever did was love Allah
as no one else has loved Him.

know that this is only a beginning.

I pray that you find love.
I pray that you find happiness.
I pray that the love of Allah becomes your only reality.

May your eyes be blessed with light,
your heart be filled with gentleness,
and your life be guided by mercy.

May every tear you shed be lifted as a prayer,
and every smile you share be written as worship.

And may you be gathered among the lovers —
those whose beginning is love,
whose end is love,
and whose eternity is love.

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ الْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
وَسَلَامٌ عَلَى الْمُرْسَلِينَ
وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

آمِينَ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ

English:
Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Might,
beyond what they ascribe to Him.
And peace be upon the Messengers.
And praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

Āmīn, O Lord of the worlds.
